3 tips to improve male fertility in old age

Several men know that a woman’s fertility declines after the age of 35. But many men are not aware that they suffer a similar fate. A man’s age can affect his ability to become a parent, too. Although less is known about male fertility and age, there is evidence that the older a man becomes, the more his fertility declines. You can’t change your age, but you can load yourself with the knowledge to improve your chances of having a family successfully.

Infertility is diagnosed when a couple cannot become pregnant after a year of trying to conceive with condomless sex. About 15% of couples are unable to become pregnant after trying for one year. Infertility may also refer to a person who can become pregnant but has a history of miscarriages or stillbirths

Studies show that in about one-third of couples, there is a medical reason why a woman cannot become pregnant. In another third, there is a medical reason for a man contributing to infertility. In the last third, the cause is either unknown or involves both partners.

Tips to improve male fertility in old age

Older men can father children. Many men stay fertile until the age are 60. But conceiving does become more complicated as you age. Luckily, while you may experience a drop in fertility the older you get, there are things you can do to improve fertility as you age.

1. Eat healthfully and exercise:

Obesity can contribute to infertility in men, and eating a healthy diet and being more active can reverse some fertility problems associated with obesity. In addition, losing weight can increase sperm count. A healthy diet and exercise can turn into a form of fertility therapy in itself.1

2. Consider lifestyle changes:

Severe stress, alcohol, smoking, and the use of hard drugs can all affect your sperm count. If any of these habits are part of your lifestyle, working toward changing them could increase your chances of remaining fertile as you age.

3. See a specialist:

Fertility specialists are not just valuable for women. If you and your partner are having a problem conceiving, a specialist can help you fight age-related fertility issues and go through some testing. Speak to your health concierge for a suitable connection to a fertility specialist for assistance.
